Being born a China man into a traditional family, I have no choice but to be acquainted with Asian girls since young. It is not a bad thing as I soon grew up to understand and appreciate their warm and passionate affirmations, their dignity, grace, and thoughtfulness. Now my fate and happiness are all in their hands.
Later in life, I was fortunate to interact with Western girls in my rather lengthy stay in Sydney, London, and New York; either to study or to work. What confounded me then was a completely new society of girls with culture so vastly different from where I came from, yet possesses similar flair, poise and glamour. I finally realised that I have come of age.
To preserve my traditional background for the sake of my ancestors, I decided to return to where I belong, after much hesitation. Today I have no regrets, but only the occassional inkling of how it would turn out to be like had I done otherwise.
Whether Asian girls or Western girls, they are all the same if we like them well. I am not sure if I am trying to give you an honest answer, or am I just trying to pacify myself?

Could it be the fact that some people are attracted to cultures/behaviour that differs from their own? Some people like exotic foods and some prefer to stay with what they're used to? I must say generally the average NZ male doesn't turn my head too often, but those German exchange students... ok I'll stop there. :pblush:

aventine,
I go along with that.

I think that the main reason is the Tv/film industry of the
Western world.
If there is an appearance of an Asian girl they make sure
that she looks exotic!
It doesn't matter if she is playing the good girl or the
bad girl.

I am always so dissapointed that there are so few Asians in USA TV and films. And when they are, their roles are often race based (ethnic) and support outdated stereotypes. It is rare to find an Asian in TV/film who is just a person.

On an illustrative side note, one of my all time favourite films is "The Bodyguard". It, to me, is how films should (in general) address race/ethnicity in film. Whitney Houston is the star singer and hooks up with her body guard Kevin Kosner. One feature I like about this film is though she is black and he white, never once is race brought up, discussed or played as an issue. They are just treated as people and I very much liked that idea. That may be very unrealistic but it is nice to be just a reqular person without the stereotype tag on you.

I too liked 'The Bodyguard'very much. It is an entertaining movie that focusses entirely on the topic of a celebrity who needs protection against some unknown lunatic without any direct reference to sracial, social or any other society related problems. Indirectly it points of course to the reality that frustration, jealousy and greed can lead and often does lead to terrible things.

On Asian girls. To me the expression of the eyes, teeth and the mouth/lips are very important. These all say a lot about the character of a women or person in general. Honesty, decency and intelligence are not race related. I have seen and know very interesting western, asian and african girls.

I don't think it's unrealistic,
But has you say there is absolutely no reference in the film
from a third party.
they should make more like this, Whitney Houston is a very
good actress, she should do more.

Unrealistic?
I have a Sikh friend who is dating
a white girl, another who is married to a white girl.
Also a white guy who is dating a black girl.
It's strange but when you see them together you don't see
any difference, they are just two people sharing each others
lives together.

But then I suppose It's a situation that I have grown up with
and experienced (and I'd go through it all again) and I have learned 'respect'

Yes, I say situation because there are people out there that
disagree with mixed reltionships.
I don't know Why?
We are all Human after all.

------------------------------
Please exuse my wording,
I have difficulty at this type of stuff.
Just thought I'd let you know just incase!!!

I've noticed this issue with Asian actors/actresses - but I think I've seen some change in the last two years, in series and sitcoms anyway. I can't seem to think of any movies off the top of my head... what about Charlies Angels? lol.

It was interesting also, I was listening to a newtalk radio show last night and they brought up an issue about Asians and dating. I'm sure it's different in the USA and Canada, but a kiwi guy who'd recently been to Korea said that even though he was very average looking, the Korean girls treated him like Brad Pitt. I'm not sure if he was just being arrogant or whatever, but he also said that although it's quite common for white males to date asian females, it's not so common the other way around... and I can sort of see that within my own society in NZ. Why is that? (I should ask myself this question). ???

the Korean girls treated him like Brad Pitt
During my recent trip to N.Z. I found this to be true about
their Asian population.
I was in heaven, It was a very wonderful expierience.

I too felt like Brad Pitt, No I will say Tom Cruise, that's only
because I watched him jump off the Sky tower.

But I think that this was because I was a tourist (It's amazing
no matter how you dress every-one still knows that you are a tourist).
Or it might have had something to do with the pro camera that
I had in my hand at the time,

I had such fun how I miss it all, Such warm friendly people.
If I asked a Asian girl if I could photograph her she would give a shy giggle
then before I knew it, all her friends were involved.
With Asian men I encountered slight problems. but I got my shot.
Now for white people. they are very difficult they don't see the
fun side of being photographed, It's all questions why me? Why this? Why that?
You probably manage to get 2 out of 10 on film.

I just love the Asian population (especially the girls  ) of N.Z

I will be back!!!!!

OT: Haha, you were here when Tom Cruise was? We've got like little towns of Tom Cruise worshippers now . Did you just go around the North Island?

Btw anyone who goes around the city centre of any town/city with a camera of any kind is a tourist in New Zealand  - we love tourists.

Yep! I sure was.
I don't know why but this little fella reminds of T.C :D
Cool hey the same cheesey Grin  all it's lacking is the shades Image
Now that's much better.

Yes I spent four days touring by car, so I did most of the N' Island.
Considering I was only in N.Z for 2 weeks (I only popped by for a wedding).
I still have a lot of the N' Island to see, So I shall be back!

We must get together next time I'm in the neighbourhood.

Man, I like the clean-look better on Tom, not the "I've just come back from the wilderness" look. :D

You don't need to see the North Island (Auckland's just a minature of Sydney), you have to see the South Island! People come to NZ for the South Island - it's got all your Lord of the Rings scenery. But seriously, it's very beautiful in the South Island. And we're better at rugby too.

I thought Auckland was the N' Island

Yes I have the S' Island on my list of many places to visit.
I love the country side and the mountains of the S' Island
I must see them for real up close.

I also have Thailand on my list.
I want to see a Vanessa-Mae concert in Thailand.

But my heart is set for N.Z so it looks like I will be returning

I'm sure it's different in the USA and Canada
I cant realy speak for the US ... But ....

Canada is realy huge, and our culture is very different from one side to the other. But by definition Canada is a huge melting pot of very different race and culture. These conditions make it very easy to integrate in our society. A far as i m concerned there arent many things i could see in the streets that would surprise me or strike me as odd.

It is fairly common to see inter racial couples here. Nothing out of the ordinary. But now that i come to think of it, it is less common to see asian males with woman of other race, altho this seems to apply only to the asian community.

I agree with Atreides, Canada is very multicultural, and come to think of it I havent seen many asian males with another women that is from another race either.

There is not many asian actors/actresses, ie. jet li, jackie chan, zhang ziyi, lucy liu, michelle yeah, and chow yun fat and they r mostly in action movies.
