A few weeks ago, while exploring the Web, looking for....well looking for anything I could find on Our Violin Princess, Vanessa-Mae. I came across the video from DreamMarko, "Gothic Vanessa". Now knowing that she did not do the vocal part, I liked the song anyway and the accompanying video clips of Vanessa, though they are very familiar, seemed to fit the music well.
What caught my eye though was the clips of "White Bird". I had always listened to Vanessa sing and paid more attention to that than the visuals themselves. Now, without her singing, I tended to pay more attention to the images on the video clip.
Now, besides being a superb Violinist, "I" have always enjoyed her singing voice, even though some may not. I think it is so softy and sweet. There is another side to Vanessa that you may not have noticed before, and that is; She's a very expressive actress. By this I mean, that in "White Bird", she plays the part of a caged wild bird that longs to be free, but is trapped and is afraid to fly away even when the opportunity presents itself.
I have seen a wild song bird temporarily caught and put into a cage. And the way Vanessa portrays this unfortunate creature reminds me of the real thing I witnessed many years ago, as a youth. Notice Her quick and frightened looks, glancing up and around. This is so like the actions of a real trapped and caged wild bird that longs to be free again.
I also downloaded the lyrics to "White Bird", and as I read it like a poem,the words were very sad and poignant. Vanessa-Mae portrays the white bird extremely well.
Another excellent mark for our beautiful and multi-talented Violin Princess.....Vanessa-Mae!
