Now it seems to be certain that our Vanessa-Mae left EMI, an important question regarding the domain vanessa-mae.com remains.
The domain is officially registered and owned by EMI.
Will vanessa-mae.com be transfered to Vanessa-Mae's new record company, or maybe even to herself?
Does anyone know whether there is a mutual goodwill agreement between record companies and artists to let a domain move together with the artist to a his/hers new label?
If the domain is to stay in EMI's possession, then we have nothing to expect form that website. But iIf it moves together with Vanessa-Mae to another company, then things can only change for the very better and maybe we will see regular updates with news and interesting information on our girl then!

That is a very open question. First we need to know exactly what label Vanessa has moved to. Remember that EMI is actually a collection of over 200 record labels so there is a possibility she is still with EMI for the CD production portion of her music under a small label. But her music and business arrangements may be fully independent meaning she answers to no one but herself,.. we just don't know. But considering we have heard nothing (industry announcements) I think this, going it alone, is likely. Record Companies and Labels love to announce the addition of a new artist, especially if they can run a sexy attention grabbing picture too, it is free publicity for themselves. Since we haven't seen this I assume Vanessa is out on her own and didn't have the sence to do her own publicity announcement, or was not allowed to by agreement with EMI, like until 30days after release of next CD.
As for her EMI website. Vanessa, it appears, has cared very little about her Internet presence which is unfortunate as it is now the first stop for most people who want to find out about something. It is so easy to put a little something up, or hire a professional for a while to get you up and running and offer up the message you want people to see.
I would hope Vanessa would petition EMI to transfer ownership of the domain to her, but knowing how big companies work and Vanessa's apparent disinterest I fell the site will just sit. Sorry for being so negative, but being a realist,.. this is how I see it. Hopefully someone will surprise me!

Glenn, I understand your cynicism. You had some negative experiences with EMI regarding unfulfilled promisses.
But is your view realistic? I can't judge!
However, I can't imagine that a smart modern young lady as our Vanessa-Mae doesn't see and understands the enormous power and potential of the internet when it comes to communication and supply of information to fans and potential fans.
I think it might very well be that Vanessa-Mae struggles with EMI already for several years now over rights and obligations that resulted from her contract. Remember that her contract was signed in a time that new media like internet were not commonly implemented in our daily life as they are today. Times have changed since she became signed to EMI in 1993 or 1994.
Glenn mentions a very interesting option for Vanessa-Mae to be musically and businesslike independent on her own.
I think it is indeed very well possible that Vanessa-Mae is currently not signed to any record company at all.
She might produce and record a new album independently, solely under her own manegement, or perhaps with a co-producer. She can then make arrangements to have it released and distributed by a record company. This might very well be EMI, or some smaller label that is part of EMI, as well as any other major label.
I've read recently about other artists that work independently from record companies on terms like this.

I get the impression that VM doesn't care about the site at all. It also doesn't surprise me that EMI updates the news about twice a year.Glenn wrote:I would hope Vanessa would petition EMI to transfer ownership of the domain to her, but knowing how big companies work and Vanessa's apparent disinterest I fell the site will just sit.
IMO, I think we fans should file a "squatter's lawsuit" and force the domain name to be released to us.

I agree that Vanessa-Mae and EMI didn't provide us any reason to think that the website has any priority for them at all.
But I still believe that EMI and Vanessa-Mae are both smart enough to understand the value the internet has in communication with and providing information to the fans and potential fans. It is about earning money, and both Vanessa-Mae and EMI have strong motives for that!
So there must be other reasons why they let the website www.vanessa-mae.com be such a disgrace to both parties.
