During her alternative Classical Concert in Januari 1997, Vanessa-Mae played an unusual piece by the Argentinian composer Piazzolla.

Music of Pizzolla was also used in the documentary Vanessa-Mae in Argentina that was made as part of her at her visit to this country in 1998 during the Storm on World Tour.

The theme of the movie uses 'Libertango' that was written by Astor Piazzola. The violin part was played by Antonio Agri.

The music impressed me very much. It sounds wonderful. Hopefully, Vanessa-Mae will do something with the beautiful music of this composer in the neart future.

Nice to hear that, Rijko! :-) Yes, i hope that Vanessa will play something more about Piazzolla too. I haven't downloaded the alternative concert yet! I'm anxious to hear Piazzolla's theme. Jorgemae will donwload this concert, so i have to wait....

Astor Piazzolla's music is not the standard tango you hear in Buenos Aires (i mean, it's not for dancing, only high professionals can make a choreography for this music). He incorporated Jazz and classical music to the tango. That's the reason why it is not tango, not classical music, and not jazz. It is a fusion, a sort of "symphonic" tango, and it's not easy-listening. He studied music in Buenos Aires, and in Paris. He had much success specially in Europe where his music was well accepted. Even a famous USA jazz sax player, Gerry Mulligan, did a record with Astor (i'm looking for this record, called "Gerry meets Astor").

I can suggest piazzolla's pieces like "Adios Nonino", "Libertango", "Fuga y Misterio", "Verano porteño", "Otoño Porteño", or "Buenos Aires Hora Cero". If i'm not wrong, "Adios Nonino" was played in the royal wedding in Holland (Prince William¿? and Maxima) by an also famous bandoneon player.

Astor played also in the Jazz Festival in Montreal. Here's a link for the CD. Check out the songs, and you'll note that you must be definitively a very good interpreter to play his music.
