Hi, guys,
Daisy and I just went to the concert. It was amazing. And I onlu just got home but I can't wait to tell you us all about it. And I'm sure you'll hear from Daisy very soon.
I've been to the concert hall before and it's not a very good place to hold concerts because a lot of the seats are in places where you can only rely on th big tv screen. Anyways, Daisy and I were some of the lucky ones; we sat quite near the stage (Daisy nearer coz I bought cheaper ticket).
There weren't much to buy this time. Only the tour programme available. And guess what, it's the programme for the Tour for Change. I bought it anyway. HK$80 for that is still a good deal.
The concert didn't start at 8pm as indicated on the ticket, I think it's partly coz many people are not seated yet. And the show started at about 8:30pm.
Vanessa kicked off the concert with the Art of War. Playing on the accoustic violin, you can saw a little mic is attached on the violin, near the edge on the left side. I like it better than the CD version because you can hear more soul in the live version, and there were much more dramatic emotions. Then Vanesssa was supposed to be using the electric violin(grey/silver zeta). But there were some technical problems and somehow they couldn't get the sound of the electric violin. Only later in the first half could they get it to work.
Daisy will tell you the run down of the show because I'm not sure about the order of some songs.
Oh, and I must tell you guys that Vanessa did not mime for a single song. She played live on every song. I listened and watched very carefully. No doubt about it.
My favorite is Hocus Pocus in which Vanessa used some effects and changed part of her playing in the song. Very groovy and fly. She got these pedals down on the floor and she could change the sound of the zeta just by stepping on the pedal. She used those to make the violin sound like an electric guitar for some pieces, like part of Hocus Pocus(not for those staccato slower notes) and the whole of Toccata&Fugue, she used those effects on some other songs as well. I really like it.
I also like I'm a Doun in which she also improvised a lot. I really love it when musicians improvise. The singing part wasn't quite good though.
Destiny was(Vanessa said) supposed to be the last number and she invited people to dance along and clap. And in the middle of the song, a bunch of people rushed to the front of the stage. And stand there clapping hands, and grooving to the music. I was, unfortunately, sitting next to a lady whose legs had problems(used wheelchair and crotches). And so, I couldn't go out to the stage. I stood up on the chair instead. And when Destiny's over. People started to yell Encore and applaud(I think they've really gotten warmed up now). And Vanessa came back on stage to do white bird. And afterwards people still didn't want to go. And after a while Vanessa came back on stage and ended the whole concert with Storm.
It was back in 1998 when I first(and last) saw Vanessa in concert. And this time after I've learned a bit about playing the violin. I can appreciate her so much more. I like her right hand movement. You don't even hear when she changes bow. Don't know when I can see her in concert again. I'm saving. I hope she'll be doing a classical tour. I miss her playing classical. And I'm disappointed that she didn't have a classical section today.
Anyways, I need to put today's concert down oin my diary. Daisy will tell you guys the rest.
Love,
Ray

Hi Ray, thanks for your story.
I too noticed in the concerts that I visited how she works with these pedals to create certain effects and makes her violin sound more like a guitar. That is why odd sounds in some tracks aren't any proof for miming at all: the sound of Vanessa-Mae's electric violin can vary form song to song if she wants to.
It is great that you had a wonderful evening.

Hi all, the concert photos are a total failure. Only 2 came through marginally. But I don't feel too bad after seeing such a poor picture from Reuter.
